Do you really know how to breath?
That's the first question I asked myself when I found this book.
Well, I guess? I have done that since I was born, I must be pretty good at it.
What makes you think you breathe the right way? Did you measure it? That's some pretty good questions, but it's not questions we usually ask ourselves.
We all breathe without thinking about it unless we stay awake twenty-four hours per day thinking about it, but if it's something we do every day, every hour, every minute, every second, why don't we give it more attention? Maybe it's time to take a couple of minutes to think about breathing? Right? That's the topic of this book.
James brings us into a world where the simple action of breathing gains our full attention. With many people going into mindfulness meditation and yoga to slow down their pace of life, it seems pretty normal to ask ourselves about how the air goes in and out of our bodies.
In this book, James does a couple of experiments. He goes around a week with only breathing through the mouth, which is by far the worst breathing habit of our generation. According to studies, it could pull back the jaw and give us difficulty breathing through the nose. Respiratory issues then begin to appear. You can see it's a vicious circle.
He also tries a breathing technic which is called Tummo breathing. With this technic, you can "hack" your nervous system and change your body temperature to not suffer from frostbites even barefoot on snow. You can also stay a long time in an ice bath without any issues.
