The brain is one of the most complex and essential parts of our body. Even if it weighs only 3 pounds for 2% of our body, it's the core of our system. It then makes sense to train it and keep it in shape. Or as the author of the book I just read would say: KEEP SHARP!

In this book, Sanjay explains the latest studies in the field of the brain, from the simple fact that sleep is vital to more complex diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia.

The book is split into 3 parts. First, he explains the basics about the brain how it works, and he goes pretty technically. As someone who doesn't come from the biology domain, it sure was a challenge, but it is totally worth it if you're interested. In this section, he also talks about myths like the classic "We only use 10% of our brain"(which is not true) or "Dementia is an inevitable Consequence to Old Age." This section is a great introduction.

Next, we have the best part: What could we do to have a healthier brain? So he explains many tools like moving, staying active, learning something new each day, sleeping, meditating, and relaxing. Also, how food is related to the brain and my favorite one: connecting with others. Of course, we always hear: "eat well and sleep well; you will be healthier." But what we don't usually think, in my opinion, is how the brain is related to our healthy habits. He explains every topic with great precisions, examples, and studies so we can easily understand it's worth the effort.

Third, he explains what studies the scientists are doing right now and what he thinks the future reserves us. He also gives websites and tools to caregivers who have to take care of a relative with brain issues. It's not an easy read if you know someone affected by this, but at least you realize you are not alone and there are tools for you in this war.

Finally, I want to say that I think this book is fascinating and quite technical. Still, it makes you realize that your future is really in your hands and that it's up to you to do something to make it beautiful. If there is one thing I will remember for sure, connections with relatives and friends are critical, we should spend time with our loved ones and tell them we care about them. It's good for them, good for you, and good for your brain so just do it!
